1. I WANT my friends to describe me as: friendly, smart, pretty, and pretty awesome!!! (They WOULD describe me as: sensitive, thoughtful, creative, introverted, nurturing, goofy.)
2. Memorable learning experience: I was doing my field experience a few years ago at the daycare center on campus and ended up working with a Chinese student. He didn't speak any English and nobody else spoke Chinese, so he was generally frustrated all the time. I had only taken a semester of Chinese and hardly remembered anything, but I did remember how to say "What is this?" So I sat down to play with him and started asking, "Je shi shenme?" His face lit up and he started naming the toys I held up. We had connected! After a few times, however, he figured out this was all I knew and stopped playing with me. We played a few other days, though, and I had some great experiences with him.
3. My favorite subject at school and why: Languages! I took German all through high school and some Russian and Chinese at college. I've sat in on Japanese and ASL classes. I would take nothing but language classes if I could. I just love learning languages, it's like figuring out a secret code and suddenly you have access to other parts of the world you could never understand before.
4. Accomplishment I most cherish: I got good enough grades in high school to earn a free ride to BG for my Bachelor's, and good enough grades in college to earn a free ride for my Master's. This has worked out for me pretty well!
5. My work habits can best be described as: Sporadic and intense! I have a bad tendency to procrastinate. I'm working on it, but I still work best in short, intense spurts.
6. Three words that describe me best: Thoughtful, flexible, curious.
7. People may be surprised to know: My parents raised me free-range- every once in a while my mom bought cheese and Doritos and my sister and I were encouraged to graze for our food.
8. What I hope to be doing in 10 years: I would love to be teaching ELL / ESL or German at a small school where I could be flexible and teach my way, living in a comfy house with some pets and taking some evening classes in other languages.
9. What I do in my spare time: I read, whittle and drum. Drumming takes up a lot of my time!
10. Things I can do without: uncomfortable shoes. And noisy shoes. One of the things I hate the most is when my shoes make noise as I walk.
11. My all-time favorite movie: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (or the Darjeeling Limited)
12. BG's best-kept secret: $0.50 taco nights on Wednesday, definitely!
13. Three things always found in my refrigerator: Orange juice, feta cheese, and empty space.
14. Person I would like to meet: Jane Goodall. I practically worshipped her when I was a kid. I love how curious and passionate and sensitive she is, and that she made such contributions to science as a woman.
